At a recent meeting of the Shoreham Airport Society Committee it was decided that the web site was no longer needed, therefore this site will close down once it's current registration has expired.

The aim, and object of the Society, is to preserve , develop and promote the place of Shoreham Airport in the history and development of aviation., and to keep abreast of current activity and development there.
It is voluntary and non profit making. Its day to day running and programme of events are organised by a committee, and it meets at the Airport Terminal building periodically. A quarterly magazine is produced and distributed to members.

The main attraction of the Society is it's monthly meetings held in the Conference Room of the Airport Terminal Bulding. These usually last for about 2 1/2 hours starting at 7. 30 in the evening and consist of a visiting speaker talking on an air related topic of interest, often enhanced with slides; videos, examples etc etc. Many of our speakers are well known personalities and have included such as Richard Noble (land speed record holder); Polly Vatcher (Round the workd solo flights) and Jeremey Spake (TV personality and ex Aeroflot employee) . Others (some returning often) have included John Farley (ex Harrier test pilot) and Terrence Henderson (ex Concorde pilot trainer). There is also an annual coach outing to an Air Museum or similar.

The full annual program is included on this site.

Shoreham Airport is the oldest operational airport in the United Kingdom and has been in continuous flying use since 1910. The first air cargo flight in Britain was from Shoreham to Hove on July 4th 1911, when a box of Osram lamps was carried by a Valkyrie, tailless aircraft.

NEWS about the Society and Airport activities will be published here from time to time
